Testimonial via Text 2024: NLP for Public Speaking (3 pack): 'Hi Ghita, I survived! I still felt nervous and a little red on the face, but I did it! (Public Speaking). I felt better for yesterday's debrief too (so much better than last week), which is good. Thank you. - Angel (Gold Coast)
NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming) can be used in public speaking to enhance delivery, deepen audience engagement, and overcome fear by utilizing techniques like anchoring positive states, using specific language patterns to influence the audience, and visualizing success, ultimately allowing speakers to connect more effectively with their listeners.
How NLP can help with public speaking fears:
Overcoming stage fright: By anchoring positive states/ memories of success etecetera. Additionally, using visualization techniques to replace negative thoughts with empowering ones.
Submodalities:
Let’s look at how changing submodalities can help someone who is afraid of public speaking:
- Current Submodalities: Assume the person pictures the audience as large, close-up, and intimidating. The sounds of murmurs and whispers are loud and all around them, making them feel anxious and nervous.
- Changing Submodalities: The person can change these submodalities by visualizing the audience as smaller and farther away. They can make the audience's faces friendly and supportive, and turn down the volume of the background noise. They might also imagine a bright spotlight on themselves to feel more confident.
- Impact: By adjusting these submodalities, the person’s perception of the audience changes. The audience seems less threatening, reducing the person’s fear and making them feel more at ease while speaking.
Anchoring:
Associating a positive feeling or state with a physical gesture or sensory cue to trigger confidence on stage when needed.
Positive Visualization:
Mentally rehearsing a successful speech, imagining the audience's positive reactions to boost confidence.
Matching and Mirroring:
Subtly mirroring the audience's body language and speech patterns to build rapport and connection.
Reframing Our Stories:
Reinterpreting a negative situation into a positive one to manage anxiety and focus on the benefits of speaking.
Linguistic Patterns:
Utilizing specific language structures like metaphors, embedded commands, and presuppositions to influence the audience's thinking and emotions.
Building Confidence:
Practicing NLP techniques to access internal resources and believe in one's ability to deliver a compelling speech.
Connecting with the audience: Using language patterns that resonate with the listeners, tailoring the message to their needs and perspectives.
Time Line Therapy:
We go back to the imprint moment on the time line to find the original cause of why a person might not have he confidence to feel worthy of putting themselves into the public eye.
Hypnotherapy: Changing Coping Mechanisms:
For this method we use hypnotherapy to create a new coping mechanism to use when nervous about speaking: We simply replace one behaviour with another.
